This standard helps those that wish to improve employee safety, reduce workplace risks and create better, safer working conditions. Health and safety in the workplace is a top concern for most businesses, yet deaths and injuries still occur.  ISO 45001 can be used by all organisations, regardless of size, industry or nature. The standard guides organisations to put in place a practical occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system. ISO 45001 is structured in a similar way to other ISO management systems including ISO 14001 or ISO 9001 and can be easily integrated with your Quality and Environmental management systems.

In 2018, Standards Australia adopted ISO 45001:2018 as the new occupational health and safety management standard. Australian businesses were then warned that existing safety standard AS/NZS 4801:2001 would be phased out and that they would be given a few years to transition to ISO 45001.
